5 Tips to Overcome Stress During JEE/NEET Exam

No matter how long JEE/NEET aspirants have undergone coaching or how well they have prepared, it is common to feel stressed or pressurised during the actual exam. This usually happens due to unfamiliar question models, lengthy calculations, time pressure, or fear of overall performance.

Here are 5 effective tips to overcome the unexpected stress JEE/NEET aspirants face during the exam:

1. Pause for a few seconds

Taking a short pause in the actual exam may sound risky, but it is sometimes necessary. When stress builds up, a few seconds of calm thinking helps you reset, avoid negative marking, and protect your overall performance.

2. Leave the stressful question

If a particular question is consuming too much time, even if the model looks familiar, move on. Solving easier questions first helps you gain marks quickly and boosts confidence.

3. Glance through the section once

Not the whole paper, but briefly scanning the questions in each section helps you identify the ones you are most comfortable with. This improves accuracy and score.

Note: Don’t spend too much time on this step.

4. Recall similar situations

Stress during exams isn’t new. You may have faced the same during practice tests or mock exams. Remembering how you handled such moments earlier helps you regain control during JEE Main, Advanced, or NEET.

5. Recall suggestions from mentors

Many students who struggle with stress receive tips from lecturers during mentoring sessions, such as breathing techniques, meditation, or time-management strategies. Recollecting these during the exam can be very helpful.
